Cost Savings
Save time and money. Using Desert Air to add 20 degrees F of heat to your aeration helps ensure dry storage regardless of harvest date. Since the drying time is so much faster, the Desert Air may also reduce the cost of drying grain with aeration.
Depending on which fuel is used, the cost of adding the heat may be further compensated by the electrical savings realized from running the aeration fan for fewer days.
For example, with average weather conditions and a September 15 harvest date it would take 43 days for aeration to average dry a 7,000 bushel bin of 18.5% moisture wheat down to 14.5%. At 6 cents / KWH it would cost $466 to run the aeration fan for 43 days.
By using Desert Air to add 101,200 BTU/HR of supplemental heat the same bin would average dry in just 9 days. Electricity cost for running the fan would now only be $101. Savings on electricity would be $365 - A savings of 5.2 cents per bushel.
Looking at a cost per bushel dried, there is no economic benefit to using electricity to supply heat for the Desert Air heater. There's only a marginal economic benefit with propane. With natural gas, Desert Air can cut your drying costs in half, and with coal you may cut your costs in half again.

**Freight would have to be added to the cost of coal but even if it doubled the cost, it is still an inexpensive fuel.
