District Heating - One Central Furnace

The 'Homesteader IV'
outdoor wood furnace
Rather than use a number of different furnaces it may be better to use one central outdoor furnace to supply all of the heat for your home, farm, or business. The outdoor furnace heats water that is pumped to all of the different locations which require heat. Heat is removed from the hot water and the water is pumped back to the one central furnace for re-heating.

The 'Coalman'
outdoor coal furnace
With one outdoor furnace it can be located away from your buildings. You won't be piping flamable fuel into your home or other buildings therefor the risk of fire is also reduced. The one furnace concept usualy makes it feasible to use the more abundant lower cost fuels such as coal, wood, and straw. Supply and demand - the cost of fuel is determined the same way as any other commodity. When supplies are short the commodity gets more expensive. When supplies are high, prices drop.
